Dr. Avi Harlev
is a senior physician in the Fertility and IVF unit at the Soroka University Medical Center, the only tertiary referral center in the southern part of Israel. He is also appointed as a lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences of the Ben Gurion University of the Negev in Beer Sheva, Israel. After completing his B.M.Sc (2000) he graduated as an MD (2004) from the Ben Gurion University of the Negev. The title of his MD thesis was “Maternal estimation of fetal weight as a complementary method of fetal weight assessment”.
Between 2014-2015, Dr. Harlev worked as a research fellow in andrology under the guidance of Prof. Ashok Agarwal, the director of Andrology Center and the Director of Research at the Center for Reproductive Medicine at the Cleveland Clinic hospital in Cleveland, OH.
Dr. Harlev works routinely as a reproductive endocrinologist and a fertility expert. Some of the medical and surgical interventions he performs during the evaluations and treatment for both female and male infertility include ovulation induction, ART including IVF and ICSI cycles as well as surgical extraction of sperm when indicated.
In addition to his clinical and teaching commitments Dr. Harlev is furthermore very active in the field of reproductive research. His research interest is not purely clinical but also includes the basic sciences as evident by his work regarding “Macrophage infiltration and stress-signaling in omental and subcutaneous adipose tissue in diabetic pregnancies”. To date he has published more than 20 peer reviewed scientific articles and 5 book chapters. He has presented his work at several international conferences and regularly acts as an ad hoc reviewer for various scientific journals.
