João Ramalho-Santos is Vice-Rector for Research at the University of Coimbra, Portugal and Full Professor at the Department of Life Sciences. His Research focuses on Reproductive Biology, Andrology and stem cells in terms of both basic research and application to Assisted Reproduction. The main research focus is on energy metabolism, mitochondrial function and oxidative stress; as well as science communication and bioethical issues. He was recently considered one of the top 2% of influential researchers worldwide, and is a member of the Portuguese National Council for Ethics in the Life Sciences (CNECV), co-authoring Council Reports on Assisted Reproduction, Scientific Integrity, Conflict of Interests, Novel Technologies, Artificial Embryos and One Health.
