Hanns P. Helmer, MD received his medical degrees from the Medical College of the University of Vienna. After completing a fellowship at Cornell University Medical College in the Division of Reproductive Biology, he went through his internship in Vienna and did his residency at the Department of Obstetrics/Gynecology at the University of Vienna. His main research interests lie in the field of preterm delivery, basic research in uterine contractility, leading to his clinical interests in the fields of labor induction, tocolysis and prevention/treatment of postpartum haemorrhage. Further interests are in clinical research of diagnosis and treatment of infection associated preterm labor and PROM as well as the effects of pregnancy and delivery on the pelvic floor. He represents Austria in the establishment of international clinical obstetric guidelines (AWMF, together with Swizerland and Germany) He is author of more than 70 peer reviewed scientific articles and reviewer for major obstetrical journals. He is past president of PREBIC (preterm birth international collaborative) and member of the SRI (society of reproductive investigation), board member of the Austrian society for pre- and perinatal medicine (OeGfPPM) and the German society of prenatal medicine and obstetrics (DGPGM)
